OUR PHILOSOPHY

Read about the formation of our unique philisophy in the History section.

Cherry Tree Bilingual Day Nursery's central educational philosophy is that all children from birth to six years are born with tremendous powers for learning which we must support and encourage. Our Ethos is to provide a carefully well planned designed environment to satisfy their thirst for knowledge, which they want to soak up in all areas of learning: language, mathematics, geography and the world in which we live, history, science, art, music, drama and spiritual and ethical matters.

THE CRITICAL PERIOD

The period from birth to six years is vital to the child's whole future. What should happen during these crucial time is subject to a whole book in its own right, but suffice to say that the infant should have unlimited opportunity for movement, physical exploration and experience. Sadly society with preconceived ideas denies the child this. This period of life is crucial to the child's whole future as he/she passes through two paramount stages and it is during these not-to-be-relived years of insatiable curiosity that the child absorbs information in an easy staggering rate. These sensitive stages are transitory periods of time in a child's life when the child is sensitive to certain aspects of the environment thus to say that we place particular emphasis upon the importance of development and refinement of the child's senses.

LEARNING FOR LIFE

Our Nursery is devoted to providing and implementing a well planned Curriculum and a well designed, happy, loving, caring home from home environment not only for the children but also for the staff and parents. Here, children's sensitive periods will flourish to their full potential in order to manage the transition between the home setting and formal education and establish a strong self-image, self-esteem, self-confidence, respect for others and a positive attitude to learning in all children, whatever their gender, ethnicity, home language, special educational needs, ability or disability.

CURRICULUM FOR THE REAL WORLD

Our effective well planned curriculum and the acknowledgement of children's sensitivity and absorbent mind, the on going training, and positive attitude of members of staff enables us to implement our enjoyable and carefully planned curriculum. The material, equipment and displays reflect the community the children come from as the wider world inspire children to initiate their own learning. We include the local community and environment as a source of learning. We organise the learning environment to provide experiences, which are mostly based on real life situations. We make effective use of unexpected situations that arise from everyday events.

A BALANCED OUTLOOK ON LIFE

We recognise that achieving aims provides a feeling of confidence and secures major factors against children's earlier failures. We and parents work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect to build a caring, trusting, loving, relationship between child, parent and staff, so all of us feel included and valued. We are great believers in providing and promoting equal opportunities for all children, parents, staff without regard to race, gender, ability, disability, family background, home language, special educational needs, culture and religion. We strongly believe in developing children's awareness of different languages, by providing a gentle introduction of the Spanish Language with games, songs, and activities. We observe and respond appropriately to all children to nurture the child's natural desire to learn. By having structured daily activities and routines and by making full use of available space indoor and outdoors, children learn independence and self-reliance. Our observations give insight into children's interests, achievements and possible difficulties in their learning from which next steps in learning and teaching can be planned.
