If you are seeking a corporate franchise nursery, Cherry Tree Nursery is probably not for you. Cherry Tree Nursery's character is a home from home environment, providing a continuous transition for children from their home setting. However, our home has been converted for use as a nursery to exacting high standards. All rooms are equipped with their own toilets and changing facilities and fitted out especially for children. STAFFING
Nursery nurses with NVQs 2-3 and NNEBs, staff Cherry Tree Bilingual Day Nursery. All members of staff hold current First Aid, Food Hygiene and Child Behaviour qualifications. We aim to provide the highest staff to child ratios for the profession, individual attention and on going training. Although qualifications and experience are paramount to our philosophy, staffs are mainly selected for their positive, caring, friendly, loving and dedicated attitude to children, staff and parents. We operate a key worker policy, which gives both the parent and child close contact with one member of staff. The key worker will provide a daily feedback verbal/written of activities of your child's progress.
SPANISH LESSONS
Cherry tree nursery provides a gentle introduction to the Spanish language for all children that attend the nursery, with games, activities and songs. This helps the children to understand and respect other cultures and at such a young age it has been proven language is absorbed and learnt faster than at any other time in the child's life. For parents/guardians there are Spanish courses available for beginners to advanced, to help you understand, or simply to have fun, meet new people and enjoy Spanish parties, restaurant outings and the opportunity to order your meal in Spanish. Adult lessons are held in the evenings and on Saturdays there are lessons for younger and older children who have left the nursery and would like to continue learning Spanish or any parent who understands the importance of early language learning for their children.
A unique aspect of the Cherry Tree Bilingual Day Nursery is it's partnership with the Escuela Madrid, providing a introduction to Spanish for nursery age children and more advanced lessons for older children and adults.
THE TOUR
The upper floor of the nursery is devoted exclusively to caring for babies from 3 months to 18 months old. Here the children learn through experimental play experiences about their environment and gain valuable personal and social skills needed in later life. The room is fall of brightly coloured and stimulating toys with the children's paintings on display and handprints on the windows.
On the left as you come in we have the caterpillars room for children from 18 months to two years. This room is bright and spacious and also overlooks and mirrors the comfort and security of the tadpoles unit. It has a large collection of toys, which are in storage boxes easily accessible by the children. In the far left corner we have a home corner where the children learn through role-play about the value of the family and how to respect and understand different religious and cultural backgrounds.
The Butterfly room is designated for the three to five age group and is found upstairs, where the children have access to two rooms, a workroom for quiet work time such as reading or writing and a toy room for free play. The emphasis for this age group is the preparation for formal education with daily structure activities, a well designed curriculum tailored to each child's individual needs.
At the rear there is a large, safe part paved garden with lots of outdoor play equipment, backing onto a field where children enjoy picnics, ball games and running activities. So that children learn the valuable lessons of taking care of small animals and an appreciation for nature, we have ducks, chickens, and a rabbit which the children are encouraged to care for.
The Mayor Janet Dunvaband officially opened Hemel Hempstead's Cherry Tree Bilingual Day Nursery in September 1994.
